Curtain Pelmets & Valances

The finish above a curtain can change the character of the whole window. Tempo Interiors designs custom pelmets and valances to bring proportion, detail and a considered connection between your curtains and the rest of the room.

Structured or softly gathered?
A pelmet typically creates a structured finish across the top of the window, while a fabric valance gives a softer decorative effect. The choice can be restrained or expressive. The most useful starting point is the room’s architecture and the curtain underneath, rather than an isolated fabric or trim.
Ideas, materials & details

Get the proportions right
Depth, width and placement matter. A treatment that is too deep can feel heavy or cover more glass than intended; one that is too slight may look disconnected from full-length curtains. Ceiling height, window width, track position and the curtain’s gathered volume all deserve attention.
Coordinate fabric and detail
A matching fabric can create continuity, while a complementary texture or border can define the window more clearly. Consider how a pattern will sit across a long horizontal surface and whether any detail should be repeated elsewhere. Tempo can discuss these choices alongside your curtains and soft furnishings.
Plan around the curtain hardware
The top treatment must allow the curtains to open, close and stack as intended. Existing tracks, brackets and any proposed motorised system should be checked before dimensions are finalised. If you are updating only the pelmet or valance, bring photographs of what is already installed.
