A colour that looks right on a card can feel quite different once it meets your flooring, furniture and daylight. A colour consultation with Tempo Interiors gives those choices a wider context, helping you work towards a considered palette rather than a collection of disconnected favourites.
From our Mosman studio, we help you consider colour as part of your interior design and decoration. You may be refreshing a single room, working around existing furnishings or looking for a more connected feeling between spaces.
Begin with what is staying
Flooring, stone, timber, cabinetry and large furniture pieces are useful starting points. Their underlying warm or cool tones influence how new colours appear. Before choosing a wall colour, identify the finishes you will keep and those you genuinely plan to change.
Your preferred mood matters too. A quieter bedroom, a lively dining area and a light-filled living room do not necessarily need the same treatment, even when they belong to one home.
Ideas, materials & details
Explore different proportions, fabrics and finishes. Room settings and supplier imagery are shown as inspiration; discuss the options suitable for your own project.

Look beyond the walls
Walls are only one part of the palette. Ceilings, trims, doors, fabrics, rugs and artwork all contribute to the result. A small adjustment to the relationship between these elements can be more useful than choosing a dramatic new colour.
Consider the view from one room into the next. Repeated colours or related tones can connect spaces without making every room identical. Where there is a strong feature, quieter surrounding colours can give it room to stand out.
Test in your own light
Daylight changes across the day, and artificial lighting changes the way colours read in the evening. Review physical samples in the room where they will be used, alongside the actual finishes and furnishings. Screens and photographs are helpful for ideas but are not reliable final colour references.
Before a full paint application, test shortlisted colours on suitably prepared sample boards or areas, following the paint supplier's guidance. Compare them at different times and from more than one position. Keep the proposed finish in mind as well as the colour.
Make the consultation practical
Bring room photographs, any available plans, samples of existing finishes and a short list of what you would like to achieve. Tell us which decisions are urgent, who else is making selections and your intended budget and timeframe.
At the outset, agree the rooms and decisions covered, the consultation format and any follow-up you need. A palette discussion, a written colour schedule and further sourcing are different levels of work; confirm the scope rather than assuming every deliverable is included.
Colour consultation questions
Can I keep my existing furniture?
Absolutely. Bring photographs and fabric samples where possible. Building a palette around the pieces you want to retain is a sensible place to begin.
Will one white work throughout the house?
Possibly, but test it in each setting. The same white can appear different beside warm timber, cool stone or changing daylight. A consistent name on the tin does not guarantee an identical appearance in every room.
Is painting included?
A colour consultation focuses on design choices. Surface preparation, paint quantities, product suitability and painting work should be confirmed with your paint supplier and painter.
